The PTC is a group of parents just like you. We arrange for school volunteers, organize community events, sponsor classroom supplies and activities, and play a role in school decision making. A stronger PTC = A stronger William Walker. Everyone is welcome and we’d love to have you join us to help out or just listen in.
Here are just a few of the Events we support (and need help with):
*Back to School Night
*Family Movie Nights
*Teacher/Staff Appreciation events
*Walker Around the World: A Multicultural Event
*Spring Plant Sale
*5th Grade Party
*End of the Year Party
Family participation in education is more than twice as predictive of students’ academic success as family socioeconomic status. Decades of research show that in the USA, when parents are involved students have:
better test scores
higher graduation rates
better school attendance
The more parents/families are involved, the more your children benefits!
There are lots of ways to get involved:
Be a role model for your child, set them up for success by getting them to school on time and ready to learn. Create a space and time at home where children can work on homework and talk with your child about what they are learning and doing at school. Read with them, in any language.
Communicate often with your child’s teacher and the school. Read newsletters and check your child’s bag or homework folder daily for notes. Be familiar with what the expectations are for your child each year. Send your own notes back to school and call the office with questions about what is happening at school or how your child is doing.
As a Volunteer:
Come to the classroom to help your teacher, help out in the office or with school activities. Help prepare art supplies in the evenings at home, help translate notes and flyers, or volunteer on a field trip or with a school event or party.
In School Decisions:
Come to PTC meetings and get informed about what is happening in and around the school. Offer your thoughts and opinions and volunteer to help out at school events.
In Your Community:
Learn about what is happening in your community, get involved and model that involvement for your children
